GOVERNMENT REMOVES BUGS
Achievement:
The software was successfully licensed to the UK Manufacturers and Retailers, with interest from the US and Australia.
Project scope:
The UK Government created its largest international food research programme to fight rising cases of salmonella, listeria and other food pathogens.
What we did:
With a £10m budget, researchers proposed simulating growth, survival and death of pathogens. We created a business case and delivery plan, agreed a complex grid for supplier models and parameters, verified with mathematical models with industry experts, and an external software developer was selected from a rigorous OJEU procurement process. Prepared a Ministerial brief and managed the product launch.
We were delighted to be awarded ‘...a special bonus for work on the commercialisation of Food Micromodel’ from the MAFF Chief Scientific Adviser.
What the client said:
"I am only too well aware of how much hard work this task has required. There is no doubt that without your dedication to it, we would not have been able to complete the tendering process and issue a licence as quickly as we did." Head of Food Safety & Quality (First Chief Executive of FSA), DEFRA

GOVERNMENT HEALTH COMMUNICATION VIA SATELLITE, MOBILE AND WEB
Project scope:
The Department of Health had completed a pilot scheme on the communication of health messages to hard-to-reach audiences via Sky’s interactive TV service. They were keen to extend coverage to Freeview while transferring ownership and operation to NHS Direct, which required integration with online and telephone service channels.
What Bob did:
Business, technical and change management was required to transfer, novate and integrate the Health Service channel into NHS Direct services. Project and service delivery needed to be stabilised during a challenging period of change for the organisation.
What the client said:
"Your most significant achievement with NHS Direct was to increase in-house ownership and engagement with digital TV processes. Both editorial and technical felt greater involvement and empowerment by the end of the assignment, reducing the risk of dependence on individuals and making the best use of individual talent." Director of New Media, NHS Direct

- Using ITIL, ISO9000, Prince 2, MSP and BS15000, we significantly improved service levels by aligning business processes and ensuring that the correct IT infrastructure was in place. The project achieved Office of Government Commerce Gateway Review approval at stage gate 4.
- We managed relationships with suppliers and service providers throughout the supply chain, successfully procuring new business across the public and private sector. Contracts between NHS Direct and the Department of Health were revised, as were service management contracts with suppliers.
- We contributed to Board approval of NHS Direct’s governance strategy, implementing new processes and responsibilities.
